Project Description: When reading and studying Lynn Crosbie's Alphabet City, I soon began to recognize the poem as an example of literary cartography. In the piece, Crosbie creates a mixture of prose/poetic autobiographical accounts of her involvement in the early 1980s to mid 1990s punk and literary scenes of Toronto. I felt that the postmodern pastiche of formal literary devices and the cross-section of cultural references in the poem would translate into an interesting interactive web experience via a Google map.

Disclaimer: This project is not associated or endorsed by Lynn Crosbie. I'm just an English nerd that took her interest in the poem a bit too far. Enjoy!

He disliked Daniel's fiction and I disagreed.
He told me a photograph
of the two of them together
had fallen from a book
the week before he died,
which troubled him.
At the S/M store I tried on a vinyl skirt
and he told the salesperson he was my father.

Ten Ban Nhac: "You Light Up My Life"

So many days: spent at the old Quoc Te. Formerly Peter's punks-drugs-

Now mothers tell your children, not to do what I have done.
